Goo Goo Dolls - Miracle Pill

The Goo Goo Dolls Mirical Pill Music Video: A Collaboration with In Color Studios

Music videos have been traditions in the music industry since the dawn of MTV. Every successful artist carefully curates what their image and vision will look like. It’s no secret that music videos are an incredible promotional tool that can help take a song from a little-known hit to worldwide acclaim. There's nothing more powerful than visual storytelling when it comes to music. Have you ever wondered how music videos are made? Who comes up with the creative concepts, decides on the wardrobe, and designs the set? In this blog post, we will be delving into the new music video from The Goo Goo Dolls called Miracle Pill. It was produced by In Color Studios in collaboration with the band. The concept for the video was written by creative Director Ed Gregory. We did everything from set design, wardrobe, soundstage rental, props, camera department, Art department, and post-production. Join us in discovering how a music video like Miracle Pill comes to life!

Music Video Production

At In Color Studios, we strive to be the best at what we do, and that includes creating music videos for global artists in the music industry. Creating the Miracle Pill video was both challenging and rewarding. We built a complete white set in a soundstage in LA. The set was designed to reflect the energy of the song; the idea was to represent a laboratory of experimentation with a clean and sterile aesthetic. The idea behind this was that sometimes in life, we have to experiment to find the right "Miracle Pill." A nice, clean and pure environment perfectly represents this idea. Our Art department was responsible for making sure that the concept and artwork we created matched the tone and feel of the song.

Working with The Goo Goo Dolls was an amazing experience; they had a clear vision of what they wanted, and we worked collaboratively to ensure we delivered that vision. The set was incredibly wet, which in itself was a challenge. We used live paint, which poured down the walls. We also added confetti, which we set off with giant fans, resulted in the confetti floating around throughout the entire video shoot. The result was fantastic, adding a whimsical but still somewhat sterile feel to the video.

The Camera department was responsible for filming the video using a Red 8k camera. This choice of equipment allowed us to catch the stunning details of the set and experiments in high-definition, almost as if the viewer themselves is inside the laboratory, watching the experiments take place. It helped us achieve a striking modern look with crystal clear details. We also relied heavily on the lighting department, which creatively captured the essence and energy of the song's lyrics.

Concepts and Wardrobe are key to any music video production. As style is an integral part of an artist's identity, our wardrobe department was responsible for putting together outfits that suited the style of the song and the band. In this particular video, we opted for an authentic, casual look. We wanted to highlight the music's raw energy, and portray the band having fun throughout the video, alongside a mix of actors playing laboratory roles. The band's sound and style have evolved over the years, and we felt that this style effectively reflects the band's evolution and personality.

Post-production is where it all comes together. All the magic that was captured during filming is then refined and polished into a cohesive video that tells a story. We had an excellent team of editors, visual effects professionals, and sound designers who worked tirelessly to make Miracle Pill a visually stunning and beautiful video.

Why big budged music videos makes sense

Creating high-budget music videos is no simple task; it is an enormous undertaking that requires the collaboration of numerous artistic departments, each one contributing to creating an experience that captivates the viewer's senses. In Color Studios was delighted to have produced the Miracle Pill video for The Goo Goo Dolls. Our team worked meticulously to ensure every aspect of the video was done to perfection, from the set design to the filming, wardrobe, and post-production. We take pride in our work, and the Miracle Pill video is a testament to that. It is always fun working with such talented artists and adding our touch to their creative vision. We could not have achieved this feat without the incredible vision from our creative director, and The Goo Goo Doll’s continuous collaboration.
