HOT TOPIC X Glitch Social Series

In Color Studios partnered with Glitch Studios to produce a high-energy social media series for Hot Topic, blending live-action spontaneity with bold animation to amplify the brand’s alternative voice. In Color Studios is a full-service production company known for fast, adaptable shoots, strong visual storytelling, and expertise in social-first formats. Glitch Studios is an animation and motion-design boutique specializing in edgy, character-driven visuals and kinetic graphics that translate well across short-form platforms. Together, the teams created a series that felt immediate, shareable, and unmistakably Hot Topic.

Pre-production focused on translating Hot Topic’s brand tone into snackable moments: punchy beats, memorable visual hooks, and clear opportunities for animated overlays. We storyboarded modular beats rather than rigid scenes so each shoot day could generate dozens of variants for reels, stories, and TikTok. Music cues, pacing templates, and animation windows were prepped so Glitch Studios could drop bespoke motion elements into live footage without slowing the shoot.

The importance of fast-paced social content drove every decision. Attention spans are short and trends move fast—content must hook in the first second and sustain energy through tight edits. This means bold framing, quick cuts, and visual surprises that encourage rewatches and shares. Our deliverables strategy prioritized vertical formats, 6–15 second hero cuts, and several 30–60 second pieces for deeper engagement, all optimized for platform-native behaviors.

The shoot itself was run-and-gun by design. Rather than imposing strict blocking, the In Color team followed the lead of actors and embraced on-set spontaneity, letting improv moments drive the camera. This required nimble lighting setups, lightweight camera rigs, and multi-camera coverage to capture unpredictable beats. Directors and producers acted as facilitators, nurturing the controlled chaos: encouraging takes, redirecting energy, and ensuring coverage for Glitch’s animation inserts.

Glitch Studios worked in parallel, receiving selects throughout the day to design rapid animation overlays—flashes, stickers, animated type, and character riffs—that punctuated punchlines and product moments. Quick turnarounds allowed iterative feedback so animations matched live-action rhythm and performer timing.

Post-production was rapid and collaborative: aggressive editing, sound design, and tight animation integration produced platform-ready cuts within short windows to capitalize on cultural moments. The final series delivered a high-velocity blend of live-action attitude and animated flair that boosted engagement and kept Hot Topic culturally relevant.

By combining In Color Studios’ production agility with Glitch Studios’ bold motion work, the campaign captured authentic performances, amplified them with striking animation, and delivered the kind of fast, repeatable content that social platforms reward.
